Victorian Sardine Box in Silver Plate & Cut Glass – Sheffield England c.1895

An elegant late Victorian sardine box from Sheffield, dating to circa 1895, combining a richly cut glass body with a refined silver plated frame. The glass features a diamond-cut pattern that catches and refracts light beautifully, while the surrounding mount is raised on spherical ball feet with gently arched handles and a fitted lid crowned by a finial.

Originally designed for serving sardines or other delicacies, the piece reflects a period when even the most specific dining rituals were given thoughtful, decorative form. The contrast between the structured brilliance of the glass and the softness of the silver plate creates a balanced, architectural presence.
