A sculptural vintage Italian catchall carved from warm cream-colored travertine, distinguished by a low, rounded silhouette and beautifully varied natural surface. Originally conceived as the base of a table lighter, the lighter mechanism has been removed, leaving behind a recessed center that allows the piece to take on an entirely new function as a petite vide poche or decorative vessel.

The travertine displays all of the characteristics that make the material so appealing: irregular pores, fine fissures and subtle shifts from pale ivory to warmer beige. Rather than feeling overly polished, these natural variations give the stone a tactile, architectural quality and ensure that the object reads as distinctly one-of-a-kind.

A wonderful example of mid-century Italian design in which an everyday object was elevated through material and form. Its restrained proportions make it particularly easy to incorporate into an interior, whether placed on a desk, bedside table, entry console or layered over a favorite stack of books.
