This Ralph Lauren Clermont race car is treated as pure sculpture: a single, unbroken form in a soft matte black resin, with no stripes, numbers or badges to interrupt the silhouette. The body is long and torpedo shaped, swelling into rounded fender pods at the front and back and tapering to a smooth, pointed nose, recalling the streamlined record breakers of early motor racing.

Because the surface is completely matte, the piece reads almost like a shadow on a shelf, and light moves across its curves in slow, soft gradients rather than sharp reflections. A small oval opening on the top marks the cockpit, the only detail on an otherwise seamless body, which keeps the attention on the shape itself.

The object is made of resin, which gives it a pleasing, substantial feel while keeping it far lighter than a bronze or metal casting would be. At 14 x 5 1/2 x 3 1/4 inches, it has real presence on a console, bookshelf or desk without taking over the space.
