A rare vintage box by celebrated French silversmith Puiforcat, finished in a rich oxblood-red leather and accented by distinctive silver-tone hardware. The rectangular body is beautifully restrained, with a subtly raised panel on the lid, slightly flared bottom edge, and clean linear construction that allows the saturated color and unusual clasp to become the defining elements.

The closure is particularly compelling, combining a circular concentric motif with an elongated rectangle decorated with an abstract surface treatment. Against the deep red leather, the metal reads almost like a piece of jewelry applied to the box. Gentle signs of age and use throughout the leather give the piece the character expected of a vintage personal object rather than detracting from its presence.

Puiforcat is best known for its extraordinary French silver, making objects outside the maison's more familiar tableware particularly interesting to collect.
