Patinated Bronze Square Vide Poche

Found in France

A wonderfully restrained vintage bronze vide poche defined by a simple square silhouette and an exceptionally rich naturally developed patina. A broad flat border surrounds the gently recessed center, allowing the material rather than ornament to become the primary decorative element.

Over time, the bronze has evolved into layers of deep charcoal, blue-green and verdigris, producing a mottled surface that changes considerably depending on the light. This oxidation is one of the most compelling qualities of old bronze: what began as a relatively uniform metal surface has become something entirely individual through age and use.

The minimalist geometry gives the piece a distinctly modern character despite its aged surface. It works beautifully as a catchall on a desk or bedside table, but there is something equally compelling about leaving it empty and treating it simply as a small bronze object whose patina tells its own story.
