A graphic and expressive piece of early Southwestern design, this Navajo sterling silver pin takes the form of a stylized dog rendered with geometric precision and subtle ornament.

Hand-cut and stamped, the surface is detailed with traditional Navajo motifs, while two turquoise stones are set into the body and eye, adding both color and symbolic presence. The composition feels both playful and deliberate an object that balances charm with craftsmanship.

Dating to the 1930s–40s, it reflects a period when Navajo silversmiths were developing a distinctly modern visual language one rooted in tradition, yet increasingly bold in form.

Compact in scale, but rich in character and history.

Collectors Notes

Early Navajo pins like this are increasingly sought after for their directness handmade, often one-of-one, and reflective of a moment when design was evolving but still deeply tied to tradition.

The figural forms, especially animals, carry a certain immediacy that later pieces rarely capture in the same way.

While originally intended as a pin, it lends itself just as easily to display rested on a desk, incorporated into a small object vignette, or even placed on a stack of books as a quiet focal point. Perfect on a vintage hat or jacket.

It pairs naturally with our Silver and Estate Jewelry collections, and makes a distinctive Groomsmen Gifts pick.

Who Are You Buying From?

Every object here has a journey before it ever reaches you. I've spent years seeking these pieces out, in back rooms of old ateliers, from families who've inherited more than they can keep, through dealers I've come to trust, in conversations with people who still work with their hands, because I've always believed the things we choose to live with should carry something true. What began as a private obsession became a devotion, one I now share with my wife and daughter, who remind me daily that the best collections are the ones built to be passed down, not simply owned. What you're holding isn't just an object. You're inheriting its story, and becoming part of its next chapter.
