A genuine antique from Japan's Meiji period, this bronze vase is covered edge to edge in a finely worked geometric relief, rows of raised oval and rounded rectangular motifs, each centered with a small dot, that give the surface a rich, tactile texture reminiscent of hammered or repousse metalwork. Two sturdy loop handles, finished with the same dotted detailing along their edges, rise from the shoulder to the neck, framing the vase's classical amphora silhouette.
The Meiji period marked a significant moment in Japanese decorative arts, as skilled metalworkers began producing bronze objects specifically for export to Western collectors, often blending traditional Japanese motifs with forms that would feel familiar to European tastes. This vase reflects that crossover, its allover patterning distinctly Japanese in execution while its two handled urn shape echoes classical Western vase forms.
The bronze carries a deep, variegated patina built up over more than a century, ranging from warm olive tones to darker, near black passages where the relief sits deepest. It is a genuine antique, dating to the late nineteenth or early twentieth century, and remains in strong, displayable condition.
A substantial and historically significant piece, well suited to collectors of Japanese bronze, Meiji period decorative arts, or anyone drawn to finely worked antique metalwork.

Who Are You Buying From?
Every object here has a journey before it ever reaches you. I've spent years seeking these pieces out, in back rooms of old ateliers, from families who've inherited more than they can keep, through dealers I've come to trust, in conversations with people who still work with their hands, because I've always believed the things we choose to live with should carry something true. What began as a private obsession became a devotion, one I now share with my wife and daughter, who remind me daily that the best collections are the ones built to be passed down, not simply owned. What you're holding isn't just an object. You're inheriting its story, and becoming part of its next chapter.
