A striking 1970s Italian Biglia box designed by Joe Colombo for Arnolfo di Cambio, pairing a substantial pink-purple crystal base with a sleek stainless steel lid.
Designed by one of the defining figures of postwar Italian design, the Biglia embodies Joe Colombo's distinctly futuristic approach to domestic objects. The rectangular form is deliberately minimal, allowing the contrast between the weight and color of the crystal and the cool, reflective stainless steel top to become the design itself.
The crystal takes on different shades depending on its surroundings and available light, shifting between smoky lavender, pink, and purple. Its stainless steel lid sits cleanly over the base, creating the streamlined, almost architectural profile characteristic of Colombo's work during the period.
Produced by Arnolfo di Cambio in Italy during the 1970s, this is a particularly collectible piece of Italian modernist design that functions equally well as a box and as a sculptural object.
