An impressive vintage Italian ashtray dating to the 1980s, combining a substantial clear glass insert with a broad square surround finished in a warm brown faux ostrich-leather effect. Generous in both scale and proportion, the piece has considerably more presence than the typical smoking accessory and reads just as readily as a decorative object or oversized catchall.
The design is built around the contrast between materials. Thick, transparent glass forms the central ashtray, its beveled geometry and substantial weight catching and refracting the surrounding light. Beneath it, the richly textured brown surround introduces warmth and the visual character of exotic leather. The pairing is characteristic of the polished luxury associated with Italian decorative accessories of the 1970s and 1980s, when glass, leather, burl wood and polished metals were frequently combined in unexpected ways.
Measuring just over ten inches across, this is an unusually large example and one that can easily be repurposed beyond its original function. Its scale allows it to anchor a coffee table or desk, while the broad central well provides ample room for keys, watches, matchbooks or other small objects. A distinctive piece of collectible vintage Italian design that balances glamour, utility and substantial material presence.

Who Are You Buying From?
Every object here has a journey before it ever reaches you. I've spent years seeking these pieces out, in back rooms of old ateliers, from families who've inherited more than they can keep, through dealers I've come to trust, in conversations with people who still work with their hands, because I've always believed the things we choose to live with should carry something true. What began as a private obsession became a devotion, one I now share with my wife and daughter, who remind me daily that the best collections are the ones built to be passed down, not simply owned. What you're holding isn't just an object. You're inheriting its story, and becoming part of its next chapter.
