A vintage Italian catchall dating to the 1970s, executed in contrasting gold- and silver-tone metal with a distinctly glamorous Hollywood Regency sensibility. The design centers on a raised circular gold-tone bowl set within a substantial square silver-tone body, creating a strong interplay between shape, color and reflective surface.

The geometry is deceptively simple. A circle contained within a square gives the object its graphic quality, while the contrasting metallic finishes emphasize each individual element. The broad, uninterrupted surfaces allow the metals themselves to provide the decoration, reflecting their surroundings and changing appearance as the light moves across the piece.

Mixed-metal decorative accessories became particularly prevalent in sophisticated interiors of the 1970s and 1980s, and the combination remains remarkably useful today. Rather than committing to a single metallic finish, the piece naturally bridges silver, chrome, brass and gold objects within a collected interior.
