A vintage Italian catchall dating to the 1980s, crafted in contrasting gold- and silver-tone metal with a distinctive geometric construction. The octagonal outer profile surrounds a deep square central bowl, while a pierced border of repeating rectangular openings creates an architectural frame around the interior. Gold-tone edging traces both the outer perimeter and recessed bowl, providing a warm counterpoint to the cooler silver-tone surface.

The mixed-metal treatment is particularly characteristic of sophisticated Italian decorative accessories of the late 20th century, when designers frequently combined contrasting finishes within otherwise restrained forms. Here, the interplay between gold and silver makes the object unusually adaptable: it can be introduced into a room dominated by either finish without feeling out of place.
