A sculptural vintage Italian ceramic catchall dating to the 1960s, finished in a warm cream glaze with twin bands of gold detailing encircling the body. Its exaggerated circular silhouette is formed around a broad central opening, creating a rounded, almost ring-like profile that gives the object an unmistakable Space Age quality.

The design is an excellent example of the experimentation occurring in Italian decorative arts during the postwar period. Rather than approaching a utilitarian object conventionally, the maker has reduced the form to a series of smooth curves. The result feels closer to a piece of small-scale sculpture than an ordinary household accessory. The restrained cream palette keeps the unusual shape sophisticated, while the gold bands provide just enough ornamentation to emphasize the circumference of the piece.

Its glossy ceramic surface further accentuates the curves, allowing highlights and shadows to shift around the body depending on the direction of the light. Despite its distinctly 1960s character, the simplicity of the palette makes the catchall remarkably easy to incorporate into contemporary interiors.

At just over six inches wide, the piece is well suited to a bedside table, desk, dressing area or coffee table. Whether used for small personal objects or simply displayed for its sculptural qualities, it is a collectible example of vintage Italian ceramic design with an unusual and memorable silhouette.

Collectors Notes

We would treat this almost as a small vessel rather than limiting it to a traditional catchall. Keys and jewelry are the obvious choices, but wrapped sweets, matchbooks or other small objects work just as well. It is also one of those pieces that benefits from being left empty—the silhouette is really the point.

It belongs naturally within our home decor collection, and its versatility makes it a lovely addition to our housewarming gifts selection as well.

Who Are You Buying From?

Every object here has a journey before it ever reaches you. I've spent years seeking these pieces out, in back rooms of old ateliers, from families who've inherited more than they can keep, through dealers I've come to trust, in conversations with people who still work with their hands, because I've always believed the things we choose to live with should carry something true. What began as a private obsession became a devotion, one I now share with my wife and daughter, who remind me daily that the best collections are the ones built to be passed down, not simply owned. What you're holding isn't just an object. You're inheriting its story, and becoming part of its next chapter.
