A vintage Italian ceramic ashtray dating to the 1970s, rendered in a warm cream beige glaze with subtle gold detailing. The piece has a broad circular form with a shallow recessed center and integrated cigarette rests, all contained within a smooth, rounded body. Its monochromatic palette and restrained proportions give the design an elegance that feels removed from the more conventional smoking accessories of the period.

The strength of the piece lies in its simplicity. Rather than relying on elaborate decoration, the design uses gentle changes in elevation to define the different elements of the ashtray. The raised outer perimeter slopes gradually toward the center, while a fine gold accent traces the form and provides a restrained point of contrast against the neutral ceramic.

Italian decorative objects from the 1960s and 1970s often elevated ordinary household accessories through unusual forms, sophisticated finishes and careful proportions. This piece belongs firmly within that tradition. Its creamy beige coloration also makes it particularly easy to incorporate into interiors where highly polished metal or strongly colored ceramics might compete with surrounding objects.

At just over seven inches across, it has enough scale to function as a coffee-table object while remaining practical for a desk, console or bedside table. A collectible piece of vintage Italian ceramic design that can continue to serve its original purpose or be readily reimagined for contemporary use.

Collectors Notes

The quiet color is what makes this one especially useful. It can disappear into a tonal interior while still contributing an interesting form. Beyond its original purpose, use it for keys, matches, jewelry or loose objects on a coffee table. We also like ashtrays of this scale simply stacked among books and other decorative objects.

It's a fitting addition to our Vintage Ashtrays and Home Decor collections, and a quiet Wedding Gifts pick.

Who Are You Buying From?

Every object here has a journey before it ever reaches you. I've spent years seeking these pieces out, in back rooms of old ateliers, from families who've inherited more than they can keep, through dealers I've come to trust, in conversations with people who still work with their hands, because I've always believed the things we choose to live with should carry something true. What began as a private obsession became a devotion, one I now share with my wife and daughter, who remind me daily that the best collections are the ones built to be passed down, not simply owned. What you're holding isn't just an object. You're inheriting its story, and becoming part of its next chapter.
