This vintage Hermes catchall and ashtray in sterling silver is a small piece with a great deal of equestrian wit. A curved handle inspired by a riding spur arcs over the dish and ends in small round terminals, giving the piece the look of tack scaled down for the table. The interior is finished in fine engine turned guilloche, a tight basket weave pattern that shimmers in the light, which surrounds a smooth, plain cartouche at the center.
Made in France around 1960 by Maison Ravinet d'Enfert for Hermes and signed Hermes Paris, it comes from the era when the house commissioned exceptional decorative accessories for the home, drawing on its saddlery roots for motifs such as horse heads, bits, stirrups and spurs. Guilloche work of this quality was done by hand on a rose engine, and the depth and regularity of the pattern show real craftsmanship.
The compact 4 inch round form is ideal as a cigarette or cigar ashtray, but it is equally good as a jewelry tray, a key dish, a catchall for cufflinks and coins, or a decorative accent on a desk or bar cart. The sterling silver has a bright, lustrous finish that pairs beautifully with leather, wood and books.
A refined find for collectors of vintage Hermes, sterling silver objet and equestrian inspired decor.

Who Are You Buying From?
Every object here has a journey before it ever reaches you. I've spent years seeking these pieces out, in back rooms of old ateliers, from families who've inherited more than they can keep, through dealers I've come to trust, in conversations with people who still work with their hands, because I've always believed the things we choose to live with should carry something true. What began as a private obsession became a devotion, one I now share with my wife and daughter, who remind me daily that the best collections are the ones built to be passed down, not simply owned. What you're holding isn't just an object. You're inheriting its story, and becoming part of its next chapter.
