Hermes built this table magnifier around a simple round silver toned frame holding a substantial domed crystal lens, with a small spur applique fixed at the top standing in for a handle, a nice bit of equestrian specificity for a house so closely tied to riding and saddlery.
The lens itself is a genuine magnifier, its curved surface catching light differently depending on the angle it is viewed from, giving the piece visual interest even when it is not in use. The spur detail is the only ornament here, small and precise against the otherwise plain, functional frame.
Dating to around 1960, this piece reflects a period when Hermes was expanding its equestrian vocabulary into everyday objects for the home and office, translating small pieces of riding hardware into desk accessories, paperweights, and magnifiers like this one.
Made in France and measuring 4 x 2 inches, it is a well made piece for anyone drawn to Hermes's equestrian design language or building out a collection of vintage desk magnifiers.

Who Are You Buying From?
Every object here has a journey before it ever reaches you. I've spent years seeking these pieces out, in back rooms of old ateliers, from families who've inherited more than they can keep, through dealers I've come to trust, in conversations with people who still work with their hands, because I've always believed the things we choose to live with should carry something true. What began as a private obsession became a devotion, one I now share with my wife and daughter, who remind me daily that the best collections are the ones built to be passed down, not simply owned. What you're holding isn't just an object. You're inheriting its story, and becoming part of its next chapter.
