Hermes Green Leather Stirrup Box by Paul Dupre-Lafon

Found in United States

An exceptional vintage Hermes stirrup-form box attributed to Paul Dupre-Lafon, combining the celebrated French designer's architectural approach with the equestrian heritage and leather craftsmanship of Hermès.

The box is wrapped in rich dark green leather, finished with contrasting saddle stitching and framed by a sculptural silver-tone metal mount that rises above the lid to form the unmistakable silhouette of a stirrup. The removable lid reveals a fitted wood interior divided into two compartments, adding warmth and functionality to the otherwise streamlined design.

Paul Dupre-Lafon was one of the defining figures of French Art Deco and modernist design, known for luxurious furniture and objects that paired rigorous forms with exceptional materials. His longstanding relationship with Hermès resulted in some of the maison's most distinctive objects for the desk and home, often incorporating leather, metal, and subtle references to the equestrian world.

The underside retains its green leather panel stamped in gold “HERMES-PARIS" and the original address. More than simply a decorative box, it is a particularly compelling example of the intersection between French decorative arts, equestrian design, and the history of Hermès.

Collectors Notes

There are Hermes objects, and then there are the pieces that speak to the maison’s larger design history. This is very much the latter.

The stirrup-shaped metal framework makes the equestrian reference immediately recognizable without feeling overly literal, while the deep green leather gives the piece a particularly handsome presence. We love it on a desk for paper clips, stamps, or other small necessities, or on a dresser for jewelry and styling.

It is also exactly the sort of object we like displayed closed—the silhouette and materials are interesting enough that it needs no practical purpose at all. For collectors of Hermes, Paul Dupre-Lafon, French Art Deco, and equestrian design, it represents several collecting worlds in a single object.

It sits naturally among our Vintage Hermes pieces, and its clean architectural lines make it equally at home within our broader home decor collection — a considered housewarming gift for anyone who appreciates design with real history behind it.

Who Are You Buying From?

Every object here has a journey before it ever reaches you. I've spent years seeking these pieces out, in back rooms of old ateliers, from families who've inherited more than they can keep, through dealers I've come to trust, in conversations with people who still work with their hands, because I've always believed the things we choose to live with should carry something true. What began as a private obsession became a devotion, one I now share with my wife and daughter, who remind me daily that the best collections are the ones built to be passed down, not simply owned. What you're holding isn't just an object. You're inheriting its story, and becoming part of its next chapter.
