Gucci Stirrup Cup Set of 12 in Fitted Display Box - Italy, c.1970

A genuinely rare find, this complete set of twelve Gucci stirrup cups is presented in its original fitted display box, gold satin lined lid stamped "Gucci" and a green baize lined base holding all twelve pieces upright. The set comprises two examples each of six animal motifs, stag, horse, hound, hare, fox, and boar, every head finely sculpted in heavy gauge silver plate with real individuality of expression across the different species.
Stirrup cups have a long history in English sporting tradition, offered to riders before a hunt, and Gucci's interpretation brings Italian sculptural flair to that heritage, each animal rendered with genuine character rather than generic form. Having the complete set together, with two of every motif, is unusual, individual examples are far more commonly found on their own, which makes this boxed set a meaningful find for a serious collector.
Dating to 1970s Italy, the cups can be displayed together in their case as a genuine collection piece, or used individually as barware for a dinner party with real conversational impact.
