A delightful set of six vintage French chrome-plated knife rests, each depicting a stylized farm animal being walked in charming Art Deco-inspired form. Featuring a dog, ox, goose, goat, pig, and cow, each figure is individually cast with clean geometric lines that reflect the playful modernist aesthetic of mid-century French tableware.

Originally designed to keep cutlery elevated between courses, these sculptural knife rests transform a practical dining accessory into miniature works of decorative art. Their polished chrome finish and architectural stepped bases lend them an understated elegance, making them equally suited for formal table settings and curated display.

Complete sets with six unique figures are increasingly difficult to find, particularly in such whimsical subject matter. Whether used at the table or displayed on open shelving, they offer a distinctive conversation piece for collectors of French decorative arts and entertaining accessories.

Collectors Notes

Knife rests were once an essential component of a well-appointed European table, and French examples are among the most collectible for their imaginative forms and exceptional craftsmanship. This farm-themed set brings a playful touch to entertaining while remaining sophisticated enough for everyday display.

Beyond their intended purpose, we love styling them as sculptural accents on a bookshelf, tucked beside stacks of books, or incorporated into a tablescape. They also make a memorable gift for collectors of French silver, country house décor, or those who appreciate unusual tabletop objects.

A playful find worth building a tablescape around.

Who Are You Buying From?

Every object here has a journey before it ever reaches you. I've spent years seeking these pieces out, in back rooms of old ateliers, from families who've inherited more than they can keep, through dealers I've come to trust, in conversations with people who still work with their hands, because I've always believed the things we choose to live with should carry something true. What began as a private obsession became a devotion, one I now share with my wife and daughter, who remind me daily that the best collections are the ones built to be passed down, not simply owned. What you're holding isn't just an object. You're inheriting its story, and becoming part of its next chapter.
