Brand: Collectors Gene
Price: 1100.00 USD
Availability: OutOfStock

A beautifully detailed example of Edwardian tableware, this antique biscuit barrel box pairs richly cut glass with ornate silver plate in a form that feels both stately and inviting.

The cylindrical glass body is deeply cut in a repeating pattern, giving the piece remarkable texture and brilliance in changing light. A silver-plated rim frames the vessel, while the domed lift-off lid is adorned with repoussé floral and foliate decoration—finished with a delicate finial at the center.

What distinguishes the piece further is its elevated presentation: the barrel rests within a finely detailed silver-plated stand, embellished with scrolling ornamentation and raised on three shaped feet. The proportions feel balanced and architectural, lending the object an almost ceremonial presence at the table.

Originally intended for biscuits or sweets during afternoon tea service, it remains just as compelling today as a decorative serving piece or centerpiece object.

Collectors Notes

Edwardian serving pieces often carried a certain elegance without excess—designed to elevate everyday rituals through craftsmanship and proportion rather than scale alone.

This piece works beautifully beyond its original purpose: as a vessel for wrapped chocolates, sugar cubes, cocktail garnishes, or even as a refined catchall atop a bar or desk. The combination of cut glass and silver plate gives it an unmistakable glow in candlelight or late afternoon sun.

Objects like this remind us that hospitality once lived in the details.

It pairs naturally with our Silver collection, and makes a detail-rich Housewarming Gifts pick.

Who Are You Buying From?

Every object here has a journey before it ever reaches you. I've spent years seeking these pieces out, in back rooms of old ateliers, from families who've inherited more than they can keep, through dealers I've come to trust, in conversations with people who still work with their hands, because I've always believed the things we choose to live with should carry something true. What began as a private obsession became a devotion, one I now share with my wife and daughter, who remind me daily that the best collections are the ones built to be passed down, not simply owned. What you're holding isn't just an object. You're inheriting its story, and becoming part of its next chapter.
