Deakin & Francis Sterling Silver & Tortoiseshell Oval Box - London c. 1910
A superb example of late English refinement, this antique oval box by esteemed English silversmiths Deakin & Francis blends sterling silver craftsmanship with the warm, mottled beauty of faux tortoiseshell. Hallmarked in London c. 1910, the box features an intricate engine-turned lid with guilloché-style engraving and delicate floral motifs, framed by a silver border.
Lift the hinged lid to reveal a richly veined tortoiseshell interior—deep amber and espresso tones swirling beneath a glossy finish. The body of the box is clad in coordinating faux tortoiseshell, creating a harmonious interplay between material and form. The London assay marks include the D&F maker’s mark, the lion passant for sterling silver, and several more.
Known for their longstanding excellence in fine silver goods and gentleman’s accessories, Deakin & Francis have been based in Birmingham since 1786 and remain one of Britain’s most respected heritage silversmiths. This box exemplifies their precision and decorative flair.
Whether used for trinkets, cufflinks, or desk accessories, this piece offers a tangible link to a bygone era of English luxury.

Who Are You Buying From?
Every object here has a journey before it ever reaches you. I've spent years seeking these pieces out, in back rooms of old ateliers, from families who've inherited more than they can keep, through dealers I've come to trust, in conversations with people who still work with their hands, because I've always believed the things we choose to live with should carry something true. What began as a private obsession became a devotion, one I now share with my wife and daughter, who remind me daily that the best collections are the ones built to be passed down, not simply owned. What you're holding isn't just an object. You're inheriting its story, and becoming part of its next chapter.
