Found in France

A wonderfully tactile vintage round ashtray combining a substantial clear glass insert with a broad surround of natural cork. The unusual pairing of materials gives the piece a distinctly mid-century character, balancing the clarity and weight of glass against the warmth and organic texture of cork.

The removable glass center is molded with cigarette rests around its perimeter, while the generous cork base acts almost like a frame, giving an otherwise utilitarian object considerably more visual presence. The softly rounded profile is particularly handsome viewed from the side, where the thickness and sculptural quality of the cork become more apparent.

Objects such as this speak to a period when even the most ordinary household accessories were considered opportunities for thoughtful design. Today, it works just as convincingly as a decorative catchall or vide poche, making it an easy piece to incorporate into both modern and more layered interiors.

Collectors Notes

The removable insert makes this more versatile than the traditional ashtray designation suggests. Use it as a catchall, place it on a bar for cocktail picks or citrus, or let the sculptural cork surround stand on its own as an object.

It's a fitting addition to our Vintage Ashtrays and Home Decor collections, and a versatile Wedding Gifts pick.

Who Are You Buying From?

Every object here has a journey before it ever reaches you. I've spent years seeking these pieces out, in back rooms of old ateliers, from families who've inherited more than they can keep, through dealers I've come to trust, in conversations with people who still work with their hands, because I've always believed the things we choose to live with should carry something true. What began as a private obsession became a devotion, one I now share with my wife and daughter, who remind me daily that the best collections are the ones built to be passed down, not simply owned. What you're holding isn't just an object. You're inheriting its story, and becoming part of its next chapter.
