Cartier shapes this letter opener as a two blade airplane propeller from the Santos line, a design that draws directly on the house's aviation history and its connection to pioneering aviator Alberto Santos Dumont. The two blades taper to sharp points at each end, polished to a bright, mirror smooth finish that catches light along their curved faces.

At the center, a domed gold tone hub secures the two blades with a pair of visible screws, echoing the fittings of an actual propeller. The Cartier signature is engraved along one blade, understated enough not to interrupt the clean industrial lines of the design.

Both pointed ends of the propeller are usable as a letter opener blade, so the piece works from either direction and can simply be set down on a desk with either tip facing out. The dual use design gives the object a pleasing symmetry that a standard single blade letter opener lacks.

Made in Switzerland and measuring approximately 8 1/4 inches long, this is presented in its original Cartier box and is a striking, design forward desk accessory for a collector of Cartier objects or aviation inspired pieces.
