Brandani Galassia Grey Aluminum Centerpiece - Italy c.1980

A large vintage Italian Galassia centerpiece by Brandani, dating to the 1980s. Formed in aluminum with a dark grey interior, the piece has an elongated, almost boat-like silhouette defined by dramatically sweeping sides and a rhythmic surface pattern that follows the contours of the vessel. The result is an object that feels simultaneously functional and highly sculptural.

The Galassia design is particularly successful in the way it uses a relatively simple material to create depth and movement. A repeating scalloped or feather-like treatment runs through the interior, becoming increasingly pronounced as it approaches the raised edges.
