Art Nouveau Silver-Plated Pierced Pedestal Bonbon Dish with Scroll Handles by Mappin & Webb

An elegant study in line and movement, this silver-plated bonbon dish by Mappin & Webb captures the fluid sensibility of the Art Nouveau period with quiet restraint.

The gently flared bowl is encircled by a pierced lattice motif light passing through it with a softness that gives the piece a sense of air despite its presence. On either side, delicate, scrolling handles unfurl in a continuous curve, lending both balance and a subtle theatricality.

Raised on a stepped pedestal foot, the form feels grounded yet graceful designed not just for function, but for the way it sits within a setting. It’s a piece that doesn’t demand attention, but rewards it.

Originally intended for sweets or sugared almonds, it carries that same sense of occasion today.

Collectors Notes

Bonbon dishes like this reflect a time when even the smallest gestures at the table were considered—when offering something sweet came with a sense of ceremony.

Today, it moves easily beyond its original intent. Use it for wrapped chocolates, citrus slices at a bar, or as a refined catchall for keys and correspondence in an entryway. It also works beautifully layered into a tablescape—especially where light can move through the pierced body.

A versatile piece that feels equally at home in daily use or set aside for moments worth marking.

It pairs naturally with our Silver and Home Decor collections, and makes a versatile Housewarming Gifts pick.

Who Are You Buying From?

Every object here has a journey before it ever reaches you. I've spent years seeking these pieces out, in back rooms of old ateliers, from families who've inherited more than they can keep, through dealers I've come to trust, in conversations with people who still work with their hands, because I've always believed the things we choose to live with should carry something true. What began as a private obsession became a devotion, one I now share with my wife and daughter, who remind me daily that the best collections are the ones built to be passed down, not simply owned. What you're holding isn't just an object. You're inheriting its story, and becoming part of its next chapter.
