A wonderfully theatrical vintage Art Deco "Lady Nicotine" ashtray centered by a sculptural frosted glass female profile. Rising dramatically from the polished metal base, the woman’s face is modeled in profile with elongated features and swept, flowing hair—a stylized interpretation of the female form that feels unmistakably of the Art Deco period.
The contrast of materials is particularly successful. The translucent frosted glass softly diffuses light and emphasizes the molded details of the face and hair, while the highly reflective circular metal ashtray creates an almost mirror-like backdrop beneath it. Integrated cigarette rests around the perimeter preserve the piece's original function while allowing the central figure to remain the focal point.
More than a smoking accessory, this is the kind of unusual decorative object that captures the glamour and wit of early 20th-century design. It has enough sculptural presence to display entirely on its own and would be particularly compelling on a bar, desk or cocktail table.
