A warm and tactile piece of 1970s Italian design, this cylindrical box pairs glossy amber lucite ends with a finely woven cane panel set into the curved body, the natural rattan visible through the clear lucite lid when it lifts open. The combination of glassy amber resin and hand woven cane gives the piece a genuinely layered look, equally at home in a room full of natural materials or one built around bolder plastics.

A small brass ring pull sits at the front of the lid, simple and functional, allowing the domed top to lift cleanly away from the cylindrical base. The interior continues the cane detailing, so even with the lid removed the piece maintains its considered material story rather than falling back on a plain lined interior.

Italian designers of this period were especially skilled at combining natural materials like cane and rattan with the glossy modernity of lucite and acrylic, and this box is a lovely small scale example of that sensibility. Measuring 4 3/8 x 3 x 2 3/4", it is compact enough for a nightstand or vanity while still offering genuine storage for jewelry or small keepsakes.

A charming and well made piece, ideal for collectors of 1970s Italian design or anyone drawn to the pairing of natural texture and glossy resin.

Collectors Notes

Seeing woven cane through clear lucite like this is such a specific 1970s Italian move, and it photographs beautifully with a bit of light behind it. It rounds out our home decor collection nicely, and its scale makes it an easy housewarming gift as well. Perfect for your remotes, cords, etc.

Who Are You Buying From?

Every object here has a journey before it ever reaches you. I've spent years seeking these pieces out, in back rooms of old ateliers, from families who've inherited more than they can keep, through dealers I've come to trust, in conversations with people who still work with their hands, because I've always believed the things we choose to live with should carry something true. What began as a private obsession became a devotion, one I now share with my wife and daughter, who remind me daily that the best collections are the ones built to be passed down, not simply owned. What you're holding isn't just an object. You're inheriting its story, and becoming part of its next chapter.
