italian-mid-centry-wood-scissors-letter-opener-desk-set
Italian Mid Century Wood Scissors & Letter Opener Desk Set

A handsome mid-20th-century Italian desk set comprising a pair of scissors and coordinating letter opener, distinguished by oversized carved wooden handles and presented in its original oxblood leather case.

The design is deceptively simple. Smooth circular wooden handles give both pieces a sculptural quality, their warm natural grain contrasting beautifully against the cool finish of the forged metal blades. The scissors feature two substantial round handles, while the letter opener repeats the same form with a single wooden ring, creating a cohesive pair. The blades bear a discreet maker's mark, characteristic of the smaller Italian workshops producing thoughtfully designed desk accessories during the period.

The original fitted case is an important part of the set. Finished in deep oxblood leather with stitched edges, its long triangular form was designed to neatly accommodate both implements. The richness of the leather complements the wood while giving the entire set the feeling of a considered personal object rather than a purely utilitarian office accessory.

Italian design of the mid-20th century was particularly adept at elevating familiar household and desktop necessities through material, proportion, and form. Here, there is very little ornamentation; instead, the visual interest comes from the exaggerated circular handles, beautifully figured wood, and juxtaposition of natural and industrial materials.

Both functional and decorative, this vintage Italian desk set has enough sculptural presence to remain displayed on a desk, library table, or bookshelf when not in use. An unusual collectible for anyone drawn to mid-century Italian design, vintage writing accessories, or the increasingly rare category of beautifully made objects for the desk.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0639/1247/6810/files/Italian_Mid-Centry_Wood_Scissors_Letter_Opener_Desk_Set_7.jpg?v=1790377913
